Title: INSTRUCTION LIBRARIAN, Librarian I (LIB-129 and LIB-006 ) 2 positions
Responsibilities: Reporting to the Library Instruction Coordinator, assists in planning and coordinating library information literacy initiatives, using concepts of information literacy and pedagogy, and including: developing, promoting and assessing effective instructional programs, preparing and presenting instruction sessions, promoting orientation to library resources and services for MSU's diverse constituencies, and contributing to technology-based public service initiatives and projects. This librarian will also participate in Main Library Reference, providing some combination of desk, chat, and email services that includes evening and weekend hours. Participates in professional development and scholarly activities; serves on library and university committees as elected or assigned. Other appropriate duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Required: Master's degree from an ALA accredited program; excellent interpersonal and written communication skills; strong interest in providing instructional and reference services; strong commitment to public services; ability to be flexible in a dynamic and changing environment; ability to work independently, as well as part of a team; demonstrated awareness of trends in the application of emerging information technologies to instruction services; proven ability to use common software tools to update and maintain website content; ability to work effectively with diverse faculty, students, and staff; preparation and commitment to conduct independent scholarship consistent with a librarian appointment; capacity and commitment to engage independently in continuing professional development. Desired: Competency in one or more languages other than English.
Campus and Libraries: Michigan State University Libraries serve more than 4,500 faculty, 34,000 undergraduates and 9,000 graduate and professional students on a park-like campus of over 5,000 acres. The Main Library and 6 branch libraries have combined holdings of over 4.8 million volumes. East Lansing is a community of approximately 50,000 located adjacent to Lansing, the state capital.
Compensation: $46,000 minimum. MSU provides generous fringe benefits.
