Responsibilities
Provide professional high-level technical, engineering, science, business, and other specialized professional services and support in the area of information research, especially computer-based, CD-ROM, Internet, literature searching, reference services, etc. to Technical Library patrons and customers requiring scientific, technical, and business information. Independently manage multiple information- gathering projects for library patrons in support of INL strategic goals. Develop contacts throughout the company while providing information research services that influence achievement of INL research program objectives.
Provide professional library services including :
- Providing customer training on library products and services to engineers/scientist s (and other patrons),
- Administration of specialized engineering and science branch libraries
- Gathering INL research and development information,
- Administration of Technical Library reference collections, and collection development in technical, engineering, and scientific subject areas.
Using standard research library Best Practices, develop sophisticated solutions to INL researcher's information needs. Mentor other junior staff members on Library functions and processes.
Utilize a variety of information sources (Dialog, ISI, CAS, Inspec, NTIS, IE, CD, Internet, off-site, manual, etc.) for research and reference tasks based on patron requirements and funding limitations. Independently manage multiple information- gathering projects for library patrons in support of INL strategic goals.
Perform manual literature searches and answer on-time, general and technical information questions using Library resources (indexes, abstracts, handbooks, and directories) . Perform research using Library based CD-ROMs, relevant resources on the internet, or by contacting offsite information sources. Provide search results in a professional format (hardcopy, electronic, etc.) per patron requirements. Pursue improvements in information searching and delivery methods.
Qualifications
MLS (Master of Library Science or Master of Library and Information Science Degree)+2 yrs relevant experience or equivalent as accredited by the American Library Association (ALA).
Undergraduate coursework, experience or significant background in engineering or science.
Knowledge of Web-based technologies and awareness of emerging information trends. Strong customer service orientation. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Prefer some familiarity with Web 2.0 technologies. Prefer search skills in electronic databases such as DIALOG.
Environmental, Safety & Health
Must be familiar with, and comply with all relevant health and safety requirements. Must be knowledgeable of emergency action policies and procedures, methods for reporting/resolving work practices or conditions to available cognizant professionals.
