Position Title : Migration HealthNurse

Classification : Employee/Grade 5

Duty Station : Jakarta, Indonesia

Type & duration of contract : SAIC, 3 (three) months with the possibilityof extension.

GeneralFunctions:

Under the globalguidance of the IOM Chief of Mission (COM) for administrative matters, anddirect supervision of the Migration Health Physician and technical guidance ofthe Senior Migration Health Adviser for IOM Indonesia; the Migration HealthNurse will assist in the implementation of the immigration health assessmentsand other migration health related activities in IOM Indonesia.

The incumbent isexpected to carry out his/her duties in accordance with strictest moral andethical standards and with due respect for gender and socio-culturaldifferences of the migrants. In particular he/she will responsible for :

1. Preparingand coordinating the schedule and implementation of the IOM immigration health assessmentactivities for immigrants and refugees.

2. Conductingproper photo-identification of each migrant in all stages of the immigrationhealth assessment process ensuring that there is no substitution in person forthe chest x-ray and laboratory test.

3. Briefingmigrants on the process of the health assessments; providing pre- and posttest counselingto all migrants undergoing HIV testing and securing informed consent from allmigrants undergoing the immigration health assessment process. For those foundpositive for HIV, the Senior Migration Health Nurse is responsible for referringthe migrant to the Migration Health Physician for post-test counseling and follow-up.

4. Assistingthe migration health physician in conducting all health assessments of migrants.

5. Followingup required medical data from the specialists and migrants.

6. Ensureconfidentiality and security of all laboratory specimen and their results by usingcoded sera numbers for the specimens submitted for testing to the IOM2 identifiedlaboratory. Results are decoded for the Migration Health Physician medicalevaluation of the migrant.

7. Collectingand arranging medical forms, laboratory reports, x-ray films and their correspondingreports including specialist's evaluation reports for the evaluation of themigration health physicians before and after the migrant's physicalexamination.

8. Ensuringthe proper production, collection, handling, referral and follow-up of results ofthe 3 consecutive days sputum specimen from migrants to the IOM-affiliated laboratory.The Senior Migration Health Nurse should also ensure the proper photo-identificationof the migrant before conducting the sputum collection.

9. Conductingthe implementation of effective, verifiable, documented and safe directly observedtherapy (DOT) for those patients deemed by the IOM migration health physiciansin need of tuberculosis treatment, following national guidelines of respectivenational TB treatment guidelines.

10. Ensuringthat all necessary pre-departure treatments are completed in coordination withthe migration health physician.

11. Arrangingmedical referrals to the specialists or other services and update all medical recordsas appropriate in consultation with the migration health physicians.

12. Conductingpre-departure health checks or assessments and inform the migration healthphysicians as necessary.

13. Collatingand reviewing all medical documentation for each migrant undergoing healthassessments for completeness of information once these documents are finalizedby the migration health physicians.

14. Dailyrecording and monthly reporting of statistical data generated from the health assessment

15. Providingmedical support and assistance to migrants during international or local travelwhen needed.

16. Providingassistance to the migration health physicians in meetings with health authoritiesof host resettlement countries and respective Embassy staff when needed.

17. Liaisingwith the IOM Admin-Finance staff for all collected fees on a daily basis.

18. Assistingthe Migration Health Physician in the identification, procurement, storage andmaintenance of medical supplies and equipments needed in the clinic. The SeniorMigration Health Nurse should report to the Senior Migration Health Physicianthe medicines and supplies 6 months before they are due to expire.

19. Anyother duties as assigned.

Desirablequalifications:

Degree inNursing, and/or with equivalent education and training relative to clinical/mentalhealth nursing. At least three years of clinical practice and experience in nursingor have worked in settings with conflict-affected communities, family/domestic abuseand trauma/post trauma care. Experience in general counseling, goodcoordination and networking skills will be distinct advantages.

Goodcommunication skills, personal commitment, efficiency and flexibility. Abilityto work with minimal supervision. Good level of computer literacy. Awareness ofgender issues. Ability to work effectively and harmoniously in a team withcolleagues from varied cultures and professional backgrounds. Willingness totravel and to work under difficult conditions.
