Senior Programme Officer, MERCY Malaysia



 

Position:         
Senior Programme Officer, Relief Operations Department (ROD), MERCY Malaysia
(www.mercy.org.my)

 

Contract:             Three
years, subject to funding. Kuala Lumpur-based with possibility of international
postings

 

Reporting to:     Head
of ROD

 

Key duties and responsibilities:

·        
Assist the Head of ROD with the
coordination, liaison and programme administration of MERCY Malaysia's relief
missions in Malaysia and overseas.

·        
Assist in the planning,
overseeing and implementation of emergency responses and non-emergency relief
projects/programmes, including management, reporting, monitoring and
evaluation.

·        
Staying fully informed of
developments, both natural and man-made, that could trigger a MERCY Malaysia
response.

·        
Staying fully informed of
country/emergency-specific issues and trends in international relief and
development.

·        
If and when required, participate
in/lead field assessments, including networking with authorities, UN agencies,
INGOs, NGOs, diplomatic missions, etc, that are followed by precise/detailed
reports and, if applicable, budgeted action proposals.

·        
Contribute to the completion of
all required systems and processes for ROD to function efficiently.

·        
Assist in internal
capacity-building.

·        
Any other tasks as assigned.

 

Qualifications and skills:

·           
University degree.

·           
Solid previous humanitarian
working experience.

·           
Ability to function efficiently
in stressful/hardship field situations.

·           
Excellent oral and written
English communication skills. Fluency in Bahasa    

·           
Malaysia highly desirable. Knowledge
of other Asian languages and/or Arabic an      

·           
asset.

·           
Strong computer and reporting
skills.

·           
Good at job-related research.

·           
Able to work with limited
supervision and with tight deadlines.

·           
Familiar with geo-political and
socio-economic issues as they relate to MERCY   

·           
Malaysia's mandate. Familiar
with the world of humanitarian agencies.

·           
Capable of working well with
others in an efficient, systematic and organized way.

·           
Capable of coaching junior
officers.

·           
Fully committed to MERCY
Malaysia's mission and values.

·           
Able to take initiatives aimed
at improving ROD's performance.              

·           
Sensitivity to cultural
differences.
