Position: Principal Geophysicist


 

Initially based in the Head Office in Gurgaon, near Delhi, India

Reporting to Head of exploration.

Direct supervisor - Exploration Head.

CANDIDATES MUST BE AWARE OF THE CULTURAL SHOCK NATURE OF INDIA AND POVERTY LEVELS IN THE REGION

Main Objectives:
This position is for an experienced technical geophysicist in the exploration team, based in
Gurgaon, India, providing technical interpretation work for exploration in India's
operated and non-operated exploration acreage. The geophysicist should have considerable
experience in the interpretation of seismic data, incorporating geological and well data
interpretation, fault surface mapping and attribute analysis to ensure that the geophysical
aspects of the exploration, appraisal, development and management of hydrocarbon
resources is optimally performed within the technical guidelines of CEIL. It is essential that
the candidate has experience of deep water depositional systems as key parts of the
company's exploration portfolio include a variety of deep water depositional settings.

Technical Work
-2D and 3D seismic interpretation including the generation of relevant time, depth, velocity and attribute maps.
-Integration of seismic interpretation with geological models, particularly in deep water depositional systems
-Interpretation of 3D fault surfaces and creation of coherent structural models
-Interaction with well geologist during drilling of exploration wells to update interpretations
-Generation of well ties and detailed synthetic seismograms including wavelet analysis and fluid substitution
studies to understand the seismic response
-Work with the geophysical projects team specialists on rock physics studies as required, including seismic
attribute studies, seismic modelling, inversion and AVO.
-Design and implementation of VSP surveys in Exploration wells as appropriate
-Database co-ordination (including GIS and Geoframe)
-Written and verbal reporting of technical studies and appropriate presentation to management, partners &
Government bodies and representatives.

Functional leadership
-Champion functional excellence within the asset team, including refinement of best practice workflows
-Champion the 3D interpretation working environmen
-Participate in cross team/departmental peer review sessions as required
-Develop and mentor junior geophysicists and peers in the asset team
-Champion access to relevant leading-edge technologies and supervise a relevant Joint Industry Project

Technical and Business Management
-Develop strong working relationships across the geophysical community in India
-Lead workflow and review processes and contribute to well proposals/post well evaluations/ interpretation
projects as required
-Manage projects to time and budget
-Presentation at TCM, OCM and MCM meetings as required and instructed
-Contribute to planning project budgets

Networking and Liaison
-Meetings and networking with JV partners, Government of India and other regulatory bodies
-Internal meetings and networking in India across NV, Exploration and Reservoir Development
-Liaison with drilling, environment team and corporate as necessary
-Be aware of Finance and Accounts key representatives to ensure payment of invoices in a timely manner
-Be aware of new geophysical technical developments to build working relationships with technology
developers in this discipline
-Contribute to subsurface technology programme definition and technology transfer

-MSc or PhD in Geophysics or equivalent
-12 + years of experience primarily in seismic interpretation with a solid understanding of rock physics, along
with broad technical experience in hydrocarbon exploration
-Good understanding of all seismic activities including seismic acquisition, processing and related geophysical
operations
-Good understanding of geological processes and features apparent in seismic, including skills in seismic
sequence stratigraphy and seismic geomorphology
-Experience of numerous basins worldwide, including deep water depositional settings
-Significant experience with an operating oil company is essential
-Understanding of project execution and cost implications.
-Strong current geophysical workstation skills, including working in a 3D visualisation environment
-Expertise in GIS and database management would be an advantage
-Team player with open and flexible approach
-Good communicator and presenter
-Commercially aware with entrepreneurial attitude
-Willingness to travel extensively

Financial Authority
-Responsible for planning and monitoring project budgets
-Manage projects to time and budget

Reporting Authority
-Within the Mature Assets NELP and non-operated acreage team, mentor junior members and make
recommendations for their development
-To the wider geophysical community, mentoring where appropriate and develop effective working
relationships

technical and managerial career development ladders
-The candidate can remain technical and progress into Advisor roles with increased technical authority and
responsibilities
-On the technical ladder, there will be opportunities to move into New Venture, development or more specialist
geophysical advisor roles
-On the management ladder, as business opportunities arise team leader or function leadership roles may be
available as appropriate

70-100K GBP package details -
This comes with an uplift of 25% and a
> Provident Fund contribution of 12% of base salary, all of which is net
> of all Indian taxes – the company pays all applicable taxes. This
