Construction Lead
Job function:
● Oversee the execution of construction, and mechanical completion of the facilities
● Coordinate activities of Site Safety Advisor and technical and inspection personnel
● Monitor and appraise contractor construction activities and performance
● Determine corrective actions needed in order to meet project objectives and work to have these
implemented
● Coordinate interfaces and interactions with contractors and subcontractors, and with EPC 1&2 and
operations
● Report progress, performance, initiatives, issues, and challenges to Project Manager
RESPONSIBILITY AND DUTIES:
● Promote safety awareness and safe performance among project team members, including
consultants and contractor personnel
● Provide input to and review development of contractor's detailed plans to complete the work
● Monitor and appraise contractor's performance and recommend corrective action to be taken where
deficiencies are detected; verify actions are taken
● Ensure construction management is executed in accordance with all approved plans and Owner's
Operations Integrity management requirements
● Ensure effective and safe utilization of all construction resources including heavy civil construction
equipment
● Ensures appropriate civil quality management
● Facilitates appropriate schedule management and control to achieve planned milestones
● Ensure timely communication with Construction Planning Manager, Construction Manager, and Vice
President/Construction
● Leadership Team on planning status and issue resolution at predetermined communication points in
the planning process
● Coordinate resolution of production and technical issues with appropriate company and contractor
resources on and off-site
● Establish, implement, and maintain mechanical completion verification plan and process
● Ensure appropriate Material Handling and Working Environment reviews are carried out at site and
that findings are resolved and implemented by contractor
● Perform Site Manager roles if Site Manager is unavailable
● Ensure designated Site Manager endorses contractor deliverables
● Facilitates effective project completion activities and processes in accordance with corporate
requirements
● Participate in lessons learned reviews and provide input to close-out report sections upon
completion of work
● Provide input to appraisal process for assigned site personnel
Required KNOWLEDGE, qualifications, skills, and EXPERIENCES:
● BS/MS in Engineering
● Good coordination and interface capabilities
● 10+ years industry experience
● 5+ years project experience
Earthen Dam Engineer Specialist
Job function:
The Earthen Dam Engineer works in close cooperation with the EPC5 Engineering Lead and the Civil /
Structural Engineering Specialist to oversee the engineering design of EPC5 retention basin, Solo river
water intake facility and other IF buildings. This includes gaining alignment with the PT on engineering
needs, objectives, and requirements. Verifying that all work performed by the Contractor and subcontractors
is being executed in accordance with project specifications, ExxonMobil standards, and
regulatory requirements. Facilitates effective execution of civil, limnology and architectural engineering
and design routines that align with the project's, goals, objectives, and procedures. Assures accurate
and timely communication among Company discipline engineering leads and EMDC Functions on
engineering activities, progress, and issues.
RESPONSIBILITY AND DUTIES:
● Support the Lead Engineer by coordinating/communicating various issues among the Owner's
engineering team that affect the civil, architectural, and HVAC engineering design, safety, and
regulatory compliance of the work
● Facilitate and coordinate civil and architectural engineering technical work products including the
incorporation of limnology study results into the facility design
● Evaluate / comment work performed by the Contractor and sub-contractors to insure that the work is
being executed in accordance with project specifications, ExxonMobil standards, and regulatory
requirements. Includes review of civil, architectural, and HVAC design drawings and documents
● Identify and assess deviations to Contract Technical Specifications and regulatory requirements;
Ensure that such deviations will be processed according to project procedures; maintains Deviation
Control Log.
● Steward civil, architectural, and HVAC engineering queries from the Contractor and sub-contractors
as well as technical information requests
● Keep Lead Engineer informed of engineering progress, deviations, and execution concerns
● Participate in engineering reviews at Contractor's and subcontractor's locations.
● In collaboration with the Lead Engineer, gain alignment with the PT on project engineering needs,
objectives, and requirements
- Participate in kick-off meetings with the EPC contractor and PT to ensure common
understanding of engineering requirements, including deliverables
- Conduct project team member briefing sessions with respect to civil, architectural, and
HVAC engineering requirements and processes
● Coordinate owner and PT civil, architectural, and HVAC engineering portions of design reviews to
minimize disruption of the contractor's work
● Participate actively in the project's change management program
● Steward the process of capturing and communicate civil, architectural, and HVAC engineering and
design lessons learned for the project
● Assist the Lead Engineer in stewarding the EPC contractor's activities with respect to civil,
architectural, and HVAC engineering execution including:
- Ensure that all affected parties are familiar with engineering execution plans,
procedures, objectives, and overall job requirements
- Ensure that the contractor staffs the project with adequate numbers of qualified
personnel
- Ensure that the contractor employs the appropriate design tools, including computer
hardware and software
- Ensure that the contractor adheres to all appropriate specifications and standards
- Ensure that the contractor provides all contract documents, including those referred to
in the job spec.
- Reinforce the requirement for the contractor to control the work, i.e. accurate and timely
progress measurement and reporting
● Provide routine mentoring, guidance and support to the National Civil/Structural Engineer.
Required KNOWLEDGE, qualifications, skills, and EXPERIENCES:
● Broad and extensive knowledge of:
- Design standards, specifications, codes, and appropriate safety criteria
- Earthen Dam, Buildings, and HVAC facilities and structures design, construction, and
operations
- Limnology issues and design considerations
- Engineering administration
- ExxonMobil practices, processes, and expectations with respect to project engineering
● Bachelor of Science Degree in an engineering
● 15+ years of closely related professional experience, 3+ years of which should be at the project
engineering / engineering management level
● Strong organizational, management, and technical judgment skills
● Ability to adapt to tight deadlines, heavy workloads, and frequent changes in priorities
● Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of software programs, Lotus Notes, etc.
● Read, write, and speak fluent English, especially as it applies to technical and business
communications
